چکیده

According to the volatility feedback effect, an unexpected increase in squared volatility leads to an immediate decline in the price–dividend ratio. In this paper, we consider the properties of stock price dynamics and option valuations under the volatility feedback effect bymodeling the joint dynamics of stock price, dividends, and volatility in continuous time. Most importantly, our model predicts the negative effect of an increase in squared return volatility on the value of deep-in-the-money call options and, furthermore, attempts to explain the volatility puzzle. We theoretically demonstrate a mechanism by which the market price of diffusion return risk, or an equity risk-premium, affects option prices and empirically illustrate how to identify that mechanism using forward-looking information on option contracts. Our theoretical and empirical results support the relevance of the volatility feedback effect. Overall, the results indicate that the prevailing practice of ignoring the time-varying dividend yield in option pricing can lead to oversimplification of the stock market dynamics. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. Volatility-price relationships in power exchanges: A demand-supply analysis

The evidence of volatility-price dependence observed in previous works (Karakatsani and Bunn 2004; Bottazzi, Sapio and Secchi 2005; Simonsen 2005) suggests that there is more to volatility than simply spikes. Volatility is found to be positively correlated with the lagged price level in settings where market power is likely to be particularly strong (UK on-peak sessions, the CalPX). Negative co...

Portfolio Optimization under Double Heston Duffie-Kan Model and the Price Calculation of the European Option

In this paper, we present a new version of the Double Heston model, where the mixed Duffie-Kan model is used to predict the volatility of the model instead of the CIR process. According to this model, we predict the stock price and calculate the European option price by using the Monte-Carlo method. Finally, by applying the proposed model, we find the optimal portfolio under the Cardinality Con...

Volatility estimation by combining stock price data and option data

Volatility modeling and analysis are traditionally based on either historical price data or option data. Finance theory shows that option prices heavily depend on the underlying stocks’ prices, thus the two kinds of data are related. This paper explores the approach that combines both stock price data and option data to perform the statistical analysis of volatility. We investigate the Black-Sc...
